Sandoway Discovery Center invites visitors to explore South Florida’s fragile marine and freshwater environments through interactive exhibits and educational programs. Established in 1998, Sandoway has become a valued community resource, offering hands-on learning experiences that showcase Florida’s unique ecosystems and the diverse wildlife that depends on them.
Discover Florida’s native and invasive species through engaging, up-close encounters!
Get up close with sharks and colorful reef fish in our coral reef pool, explore Southeast Florida’s largest private shell collection, and take part in special events like Earth Day celebrations and beach clean-ups. From the observation deck to the shell collection and butterfly garden, visitors can discover the wonders of our unique coastal environment. Hands-on experiences continue at the stingray touch tank, along with engaging exhibits that introduce nocturnal animals, reptiles, birds, and amphibians.
The nature center’s activities include daily shark and stingray feedings, aquarium feedings, and animal encounters!
Through environmental field trips and outreach programs, Sandoway inspires students and visitors to care for Florida’s coastal ecosystems. Using live animal encounters, hands-on artifacts, and interactive learning equipment, our STEM-based programs deliver impactful environmental education with a strong focus on supporting students at risk of educational failure.
